1. Regional Network - Akademie Schloss Solitude

The “Akademie Schloss Solitude” Foundation, Stuttgart, has a great deal of interest in cooperating with the University of Konstanz. As one of the largest artists’ association in Europe, the foundation has placed special emphasis on its ties with both economists (e.g., the ICN Business School in Nancy) and scientists (Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, Berlin); it would now like to develop contacts with the Center of Excellence (and Zukunftskolleg) in Constance.

For up to four researchers annually at the Center, the “Akademie Schloss Solitude” is offering three-month guest visiting fellowships, with shorter stays (for instance 2 months) also possible. During this period Center-members will maintain their ties to Constance. The foundation offers a studio for working and living together with use of all house facilities (library with loan possibilities etc.). In addition, it will cover one-time travel and transport costs. This offer is in effect starting autumn 2009.

During their stay fellows will be able to establish contact with artists, economists, and historians of science, with resulting ideas for cooperation — for example in a workshop framework — financially supported by the foundation. The peaceful and inspiring atmosphere of the Akademie is ideal for both seeing through a project’s end phase in a focused manner and developing the ideas for a new project. In turn, the Center will benefit through the expansion of is interdisciplinary profile tied to collaboration with artists and economists on both a national and international level.
At the same time, cooperation with the “Akademie Schloss Solitude” foundation will mean expansion of the Center’s regional network from St. Gallen, Basel, and Zurich via Tübingen and Marbach to Stuttgart, thus creating a strategically favorable connection with the capital of Baden-Württemberg. The cooperation will begin on either 1 December 2009 or 1 January 2010.
The contact-person at the Center is PD Dr. Michael Kempe.

2. International Cooperation ‒ University of Bologna

The University of Bologna is offering a practical expression or “personalization” of already-existing cooperation with the University of Konstanz in the form of an English-language exchange-program in “Philosophy of Science” for doctoral students at the Center. The program will run until autumn 2012 and can be expanded both thematically and in respect to participating disciplines.

In this framework program participants will be able to travel to Bologna at the soonest possible time for up to three months while maintaining their ties to Constance. In Bologna they will receive temporary workplaces and help in finding housing. Participation in the weekly English-language colloquium is desirable. In turn doctoral students from Bologna will be able to work in Constance at the Center in the same period, supported from Bologna by Erasmus Grants.

We will be able to offer them use of the large offices in the Y-building and participation in the Center’s English-language activities. The institutional “added value” for the Center will consist in expansion and strengthening of its international ties. The contact-person at the Center is Prof. Bernhard Kleeberg.
